[TOP 50] K-POP SONGS CHART - JANUARY 2016 [WEEK 3]
SPOILERS AHEAD! CHECK OUT THE LATEST CHART BEFORE READING!
It was a battle unlike anything the Top 50 Chart has ever seen. On one side, a surging Dal★Shabet was looking to claim their first #1 song after a stellar 43-position jump last week. On the other side, a BTS who had just come off their record-breaking six week reign at #1 and who were eager to have ARMY’s push them to a near-impossible 7th week at #1. Why near-impossible? With the voting restriction in place for songs who spend 6 weeks at #1, fans cannot vote for “Run” in their top 3, reducing the potential points BTS can earn by 30%! Despite this, the difference between the two songs this week was a mere 49 points. The victor? Dal★Shabet’s “Someone Like U”, with 2,743 points!
That wasn’t the only close battle this week though! In fact there was an even fiercer fight going on for the final spot in the top 10. How close was it? So close that songs #10-13 were only separated by 10 points. That’s right – 4 songs were within 1 fan’s vote for the #10 spot on the chart this week! Those songs were Seventeen & Ailee’s “Q&A”, GOT7’s “Confession Song”, iKON’s “Apology”, and Up10tion’s “Catch Me”. And the lucky winner who claimed that final spot? Up10tion! Between the race to be in the top 10 and the battle for #1, I can’t stress enough that every vote counts, so choose wisely!
Besides the tight races, there were another round of big jumps and drops this week. As expected, Suzy and Baekhyun’s “Dream” climbed high up the chart, moving up 27 spots to #18. It shared the title of biggest jump this week with “No Love” by Lucky-J, which jumped 27 spots up to #20. Fans caught on to the scare last week with Romeo, and as a result “Target” enjoyed a commendable jump up 7 spots to #36 in its final week on the chart. With Christmas already becoming a distant memory, TaeTiSeo’s “Dear Santa” is losing traction quickly, dropping another 7 spots down to #32.
Another interesting development this week is actually focused on the bottom of the chart. There are a number of songs who have managed to hover around the #40 mark without falling off the chart, but are now starting to slip – just in time for their final week or two on the chart. For example, Tahiti’s “Skip” is at #40 this week in its next-to-last week, and High4’s “Dead or Alive” is down 1 spot to #39 while also being in its next-to-last week. “Ddo Ddo” by myB is also starting to fall back down, dropping 6 spots this week to #38. Fans will have to work hard this week if they want these songs to earn their 12 week awards!
